I purchased a full set of Velvet Animas about a month ago (on the bass about 3 weeks) and have decided to stick with just the D & G strings, paired with Spirocores on the bottom.
Strings are in perfect condition, except a small crimp in the E string where it wound around the tuning peg.
I'll take $85 US for these strings or would trade for a full set of Spirocores in decent condition (preferably Mediums, but would consider Weichs as well). If purchased, I'll cover shipping in North America.
Thanks,
fm

Trade options considered include Spirocores (Medium or Weich), as well as Superflexibles, or Evah Pirazzi (Medium or Weich)

Also: how is the tension compared to the Evah's?

I'm a 95% Pizz player, so I can't really comment on how well these strings bow - Sadly, I don't get a great arco sound out of any string
I know Velvet pitches them as a crossover string, but I don't think they are the best string for Arco - Check out the Velvet Mega Threads - the info you are looking for might be in there.

I'll try to answer your question though - these strings do have a certain 'something' that some people really dig. Some say they have a "gut-like" sound, but I don't really think so myself (although my gut experience was pretty short lived). They are a nice low tension string and the even tension across the strings is something quite interesting. For me, sadly, I keep trying to deviate from the Spirocore sound, just wanted to try something new, but ultimately I always come crawling back - for better or worse.
There are (I believe) three extensive mega threads dealing with these strings - have a look at these if you want a more definitive answer from people that are using these strings, rather than trying to sell them.
Oh, and to clarify, the entire set is off my bass - in the original post, I mentioned that I was still using the D & G strings, which is not the case - back to full Spirocores again! |
