Fully Carved Bulgarian Bass at Gollihur Music - Double Bass, Upright Bass, String Bass Specialists
Above is the link to the website where I bought this bass in 2003. Mine is the 4 string, right-handed, w/ matte finish.
You can read all about the bass, including the cost. Pretty much everything it says about the bass is true. It's definitely a good instrument. It's also durable, great for people who might be banging it around a lot on the road/stage/rehearsal. It sounds GREAT plugged in!
I never got that good at upright, so I'd rather have the money than a big bass taking up room in my apartment.
The reasons why you should buy my bass instead of buying a new one from that website I linked above:
1) If you bought it from that site now you would be getting a bass with brand new wood. My bass has had 8 years to start aging.
2) These basses come out of the box completely unplayable! (Not set up, RIDICULOUSLY high action.) I spent altogether at least $500 for a luthier (Dennis English) to plane the fingerboard, make a new bridge, adjust the soundpost, etc.
3) My bass has a high quality pick up, built and installed by John Knudson. John Knudson's upright pick ups as well as his electric upright bass (called the Messenger bass) are used by some famous players. I paid John $200 for it installed. It really sounds great plugged in!
Compare the price on the site (keep in mind that price does not include shipping) to my price, and consider the reasons mine is better.
You would have to pick up in the San Francisco bay area or pay for shipping (shipping would probably be around $200? More? I don't really know.)
