Our son will be moving into a ¾ size so we have an older (from the serial # 6/2000) ½ size Shen SB 100 available. We purchased this bass from Michelle Fiore (
http://www.allthingsbass.com) out of her rental fleet for him to get started on and insure he was serious about playing while providing him with motivation to work towards a new instrument. He is now preparing to audition for the Youth Symphony, and will move up to a ¾ (another Shen) once these are completed. The bass is set up wonderfully (by Michelle I might add) and has been a terrific instrument for him to learn on exceeding our ease of playability hopes and expectations. This ½ size does show signs of having been in a rental fleet for a while, or said differently there is wear to the finish, yet structurally it is in perfect shape and has had new strings within the last year (Helicore Orchestra-Light). Included are 2 bass bags, a standard with light padding and a heavier padded waterproof with backpack straps, and a bow. In the desire that another student or beginner can have an opportunity to get started with their own bass (vs. renting) we are selling for only what we have in this set up at $950.00.
