Kay M-1 3/4 Upright Bass, Serial # 44566 which dates it from 1962. M-1s were one of Kay's higher-end models. This is a great sounding, great playing and great looking vintage bass. The bass is in very good condition; there are no cracks, the neck was never broken and the edges are in good shape. The dark brown finish is checkered and chipped in a few places and it has some of the usual scratches and dings, but overall it's in great shape for a 46-year-old Kay as you can see in these pictures. This bass is all original except for the adjustable bridge. It's currently strung with Thomastik Superflexible strings (LaBella Supernils were on it when these pictures were taken). I've had gut, steel and synthetic strings on it at various times and all sound good so it can be set up for whatever style you play. The bass has good low-end response and the neck is slim and comfortable. It comes with the original Kay canvas bag (which is pretty beat) and a second, newer bag. $2500.
This bass will need to be picked up. I am willing to meet you within a few hours of Nashville, TN.
