I'll double-check and let you know. |

+ + +
Judging by the "short" style side panels, I'd expect to find a date in the early 80s. Around 1984 changed the preamp; the earlier ones had one "DB" channel.
That's the only amp I've owned for about the past ten years or so. Lovely amp. I don't need more power than 100w. |

The SN/Date inside the amp is 08-14-98
Presumably this means that the amp is from 1998, and according to the previous poster that the second channel is the same . . . they sound different to me though, so I don't know what to make of that.
also, I talked with Walter and followed his detailed instructions for cleaning the pots . . . no more scratching! |

My guess would be that the amp was sent in for service in '98 and the ink marking the date of manufacture has faded into oblivion over time.
Incidentally, if I wasn't expecting the birth of my daughter any day now, I'd be headed south with cash in hand right now. Walter told me he thinks that design was one of his best, and I have to agree.

The amp's actual serial number (and date of manufacture) is permanently stamped into the top of the large black aluminum heat sink, which can be seen by removing the top cover.
FYI the current Walter Woods Electracoustic series amps were already in production by 1998. I have one made in 1997. The Electracoustic series replaced the "sweeper" series amps (first series with swept midrange controls) which replaced the classic red anodized aluminum front panel amps in the late 1980's.
Although the newer Walter Woods amps are excellent in their own way, the classic MI 100-8 has a wonderful sweet sound all it's own and is a really great amp. Someone should definitely buy this one.

I checked the heatsink, and it's stamped 100586, so it's from October 1986 presumably.
I also talked to the original owner who confirmed that he got it in the mid 80's and had an overhaul done in 98 by Walter.

There's an opening under the 3 prongs coming off the pot, and just spray as little as possible in there and move the pot back and forth to get the contacts clean. It took about 5 minutes, 4 minutes of which were unscrewing the top and bottom panels and screwing them back on.
I was amazed at how well it worked, actually. |
