1948 Kay O-1 $1800

1948 Kay O-1 #17813 $1800

This is a some what rare Kay bass and the only O-1 (orchestra-one) model I have ever seen. I bought this bass for the unusual model and color which is dark, purple-burgundy brown with a red/orange sunburst color. This was a one owner bass purchase from a 65 year old FEMALE jazz bass player. Because of health reasons she no longer plays bass. This bass is being sold as is. It does have the classic Kay neck crack (only a surface crack at this time) that will need repaired but it does hold tune and is playable as is. The bass is strung with Spiro mittels and pick-up (Underwood I think) is included.

I can ship this bass by Greyhound bus to the lower 48. Buyer pays all shipping which is usually $200 or less. If you are interested send me a PM.

Somebody should jump on that deal. Molly knows her ply basses as well as anyone around and the price is fair- that would cost you close to a grand more in Western North Carolina.

If it doesn't go, bring it with you to Merlefest.

Thanks James.

I think this bass will be sold before Merlefest…but good idea.

The more I answer questions about this bass the more I am finding it is a pretty unusual Kay. I can find no other O-1 as a reference point. There are lots of O-100’s but no other O-1’s.

…My friends all play Cleveland’s, I must make amends.
Worked hard all my lifetime, no help from my friends,
So Lord, won’t you buy me a 48 O-1 ?

Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a vintage AS ?
Dialing For Dollars is trying to find me.
I wait for delivery each day until three,
So oh Lord, won’t you buy me a vintage AS ?

Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a night on the town ?
I’m counting on you, Lord, please don’t let me down.
Prove that you love me and buy the next round,
Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a night on the town ?

Everybody!
Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a 48 O-1 ?
My friends all play Cleveland’s, I must make amends,
Worked hard all my lifetime, no help from my friends,
So oh Lord, won’t you buy me a 48 O-1 ?

Sorry I just had to finish the song. You tee'd it up so nicely.

Sorry for the slight derail, but is greyhound bus a good way to ship a bass?

(I need to get a bass from coast to coast and don't own a trunk right now).

Thanks!

Yes and No.

Yes because it is less expensive then most shipping methods…usually $80-$90 one way. Down side, I would not ship a bass this way with out a bass trunk. The insurance ranges only $300 to $1000 so if your bass gets damage from improper packing you are out of luck. You can't get much repaired or replaced with this limited amount of insurance.

I have shipped with out a case and my bass was damaged …now that I have a well made flight case I would not ship a bass any other way. Also note Greyhound is not traceable while in transits…so you need to be patient…it will eventually get to where it is going.

Good luck!
