This is an early Kay or Kay-style bass. The inside sticker says "DeKay s/n 8066". I've never been able to exactly date it. I had Chuck Trager in NY replace the rosewood fingerboard with a hefty ebony one- now it sounds better than any plywood bass I've ever played. Chuck also believes it is an early Kay because the tuners were manufactured by Kluson. At any rate it is a fantastic sounding bass. I recorded and toured quite a bit with this bass and I hate to let it go- it really is one of a kind. $2500 for the bass or $3000 including Mooradian case, Underwood pickup and bow. Cincinnati area.
