Beautiful 7/8 size German string bass circa 1880.
This is a healthy and expertly set-up bass that was appraised by David Gage for $16,000
in 2004. It has a new fingerboard and shim under the neck as well as a new bridge with wheels
and a Realist pickup included. It has a very playable 41 1/2 string legnth and has a rich arco
sound and a punchy pizz sound that works well for jazz.
The top is made of two-piece straight-grained spruce and is cut with gamba corners. The
ribs and back are made of highly flamed maple. The original scroll is made of maple. The
varnish is original and is a brown spirit varnish over a yellow ground. Asking $13,000 Brooklyn, NY pics available
