Sorry for reposting. I just wanted to mention that I will be gigging in California (San Jose and Los Angeles), August 18-27. If there are any *really* interested parties in CA, I would be glad to fly from NYC with this bass...send me a PM asap if interested.
Carved Juzek double bass for sale in Brooklyn, NY, as pictured below, most likely dating from the early 50’s.
Other than for a few nicks and finish imperfections, the bass is in great, solid condition overall. Top NYC luthiers David Gage and Bill Merchant have worked on the bass over the past few months, setting it up professionally, repairing a few minor cracks, etc. A new thick top grade ebony fingerboard was added last month as well: this extended board runs up to an E on the G string, past the second octave (that’s almost a three octave range per string). Those recent repairs and upgrades have cost me close to $1500.
The tone of this bass is extremely punchy and very well defined, bowed or plucked, and very, very loud when played acoustically. However, the instrument does amplify well with a pick-up like the Realist (which doesn’t come with the bass, anyways). The scale is a standard 41”. Here are two soundfiles of this Juzek in action, from an **unmixed** recent studio session (awful balance among the instruments):

I am looking for a local buyer, since I cannot arrange to ship the bass myself. However, you are welcome to get in touch with local bass shops like David Gage’s, and inquire how much they would charge for shipping the bass to where you live. I would be happy to bring the instrument to the shop and let them handle the shipping. You can get in touch with me and ask me any questions you may have about the instrument by sending me a PM. If you’re in New York City, you’re welcome to check out the bass in person.
The selling price is $7000, down from my initial request of $8000.
