| Chubby Jackson? 5 string for sale in Berkeley, CA $3000 Kay upright bass. Beautiful blond 5 string. High C. New ebony board installed by professional. New adjustable bridge, new nut. New Spirocore Weich strings. No performance issues. The bass plays remarkably well, with close action for pizzicato and still nice arco. Included is a new Finale (look it up, in case you don't know about it, and see the great reviews) French bow. Underwood piezo pickup. Nice soft case. I'm told by someone familiar with vintage Kays that "It is almost certainly the Chubby Jackson model". The bass is from as long ago as the '60's, possibly older. The usual paper tag inside is long gone, and the original Kay emblem from the tail piece is missing. I bought it in 1993 from a jazz player in Sedona, Arizona, and it had a very dark and poorly applied finish on it. In order to remove the finish completely, the purfling, which was etched and painted more than inlaid, had to come off as well, but prior to that process, all adornment was consistent with the Jackson model. Tuner gears assembly has been powder coated, but is the original equipment. Carved head scroll.
This is great playing instrument, and I hope that it goes to someone who sincerely appreciates it. The price is firm at $3000. Local sale only. See it in Berkeley, California. I have a few photos, and will need your email address to send. Serious inquiries from potential buyers only, please. Thanks.
