do folks ever check their mail/ads

I've replied to several folks on this forum selling EUB's and getting a response seems to be extremely difficult. I assume everyone on this forum is busier than over on the electric forum because I rarely have problems there.

Good remark, Jack.
But was it over an extensive time period?
During the summer, many people are leaving for weeks.
You can check someone's profile to see the last time he did a logon on Talkbass.

Understood but I almost always do an email as opposed to a private message. I think folks are posting ads here and don't check email so they don't see responses. In some cases, I've gotten one email but no followups. I think folks in the DB group are less interested in buying and selling so there seems to be a more casual attitude about it whereas in the electric group, folks seem to be into frantic buying and selling and are more apt to be checking their emails for potential buyers...

My guess is practicing is more of a priority than gear buying.

Or maybe cyberindifference.

But why advertise something if you're not going to reply to responses???

Cyberindifference-another word for bad manners.

Actually my limited experience on this side of the forum is that folks here respond quickly, with quality/thoughtful posts.

Mine as well, with a couple of glaring exceptions.

I remember when Jack was looking for an EUB as I was as well. I also had problems with a few people not responding or emailing me telling me details would be soon available. Never happened. One was even in Montreal and I had the cash ready!

I don't know about other people - but the reason I like TB is because it doesn't involve email!

So - when I set up TB many years ago I had an email account, but got rid of this and there have been many years where I have only had a business email address and I don't want that cluttered by personal stuff. So there was no way to contact me via email.

Also I know that emails from places like this are often blocked by anti-spam filters and don't get through.

So I think it's far safer to use PMs as you know these will always get through!
