Very nice 3/4 circa 1880 Bohemian Bass with fingered C extension. Age and origin were determined by Michael Kramher (Poellman) and Horst Gruenert. This Bass was purchased from the Bass Garden in NYC in 1999. Since then it has been restored by Michael Kramher in 2005. The restoration included reforming the top, repairing allot of cracks, new edging, scroll repair, new tuners, and a Poellman bridge with the Franz Moser adjusters (aluminum to match the p/u)and the Full Circle pickup installed. In 2006 Bob Ross of Denver installed a wedge, new fingerboard, and rebuilt the C extension.
This is a great sounding old Bass, an absolutely stunning jazz bass with a tone that I would describe as deep, dark, warm with a nice sustain. In addition to the rich low end this bass also really sings in thumb position. It also amplifies incredibly well with either the Realist or the Full Circle.
This bass is not a cannon but in a studio situation where you are close miking once again the sound is very nice. This bass has received so many compliments on its tone, I know a few of my colleagues think I'm nuts to sell it but I can't afford to keep two instruments.
The Arco sound is good, certainly would work well in a semi-pro setting.
I would highly recommend this axe to somebody looking for a jazz bass with a rich acoustic sound that amplifies extremely well.
The bass is currently set-up with Spirocore GDA weichs and a Mittel Long E.
Price is 11,000 US dollars.
