| FS 7/8 size German Bass This string bass was made in Germany in about 1955. It is in very good condition. It is located near NYC.
There are 2 labels inside:
Anton Schroetter
Geigenbaumeister
Mittenwald, Bayern
Made in Germany
and,
Handerbeit aut Mittenwald
Made in Germany
It has an even grain Spruce top. The ribs and back are made of medium flamed maple. It is a round back.
The neck is original and made of medium grain maple. There are double plated nickel tuning machines. The fingerboard is ebony. There is a fingered "C" extension made by Jeff Bollbach of Long Island, NY. He also reset the neck to bump it up a little. Beautiful work!
The bass is appraised in 2001 by David Gage at $11,000. (This appraisal was done before the C extension was added in 2006.)
Asking $8000.
I am selling this instrument to help purchase another instrument. I have used it on Broadway for musical shows and for touring. Big sound and great projection.
