VL208 w/polemount flange - $650
VL108 w/cover (excellent cond) - $325
VL108 w/polemount flange - $275
AMT S25B modified by Gary Falk - $350
Each item needs some explanation, so I'll post a few times to fit all the pics in.
First, the venerable VL208. I've probably gigged more on this cabinet than any other. It's the best sounding cabinet I've ever owned, but since I got my Wizzy 10's at about 1/3 the weight, I never use it. It's in perfect working order, but looks like it has been gigged with a lot. The carpet isn't torn anywhere, but you can tell it's been lovingly used. Keep in mind that this cab no longer has the tiltback plate as it was removed in order to install the pole flange. If I was still in my 30's, no way would I sell this thing. As it is, I'm not getting any younger, so I'm going with the lighter cabs that sound almost as good. (re: the pics - the polemount flange on the 208 looks exactly like the one on the 108 posted later; the difference is that the balance of the drivers on the 208 make it list slightly to port when up on the stand, whereas the 108 doesn't do this because it's lighter).

You can see that the white label one is in excellent shape, and the red label one has been lovingly used and gigged on. The carpet is a little nappy on the red label cab. The top corners are also some of the older style metal ones, and the paint's pretty chippy on them. The bottom corners are the newer plastic ones...go figure, it was that way when I bought it.
The VL108 cab is perfect for those drummerless "almost don't need an amp" gigs, and are very unobtrusive. I love the sound of them; they've got that "is my amp turned on? Oh yeah, I guess it is" kind of vibe. They'll chuff a bit on the low E if you crank 'em, but it's usually only noticeable onstage.

On both this and the VL208 with the flange, we Gary Falk didn't cut into the cab to mount the flange, but rather simply removed the tiltback plate. |

Spirit of full disclosure, I blogged about my eventual switch from the AMT to cheaper dynamic mics in This thread. The AMT definitely has it's own mojo and many people prefer the sound live, but I got tired of carrying around the extra pre.
This unit has been altered by Gary Falk to get rid of the flimsy plastic connectors that come on the regular AMT cable. before Gary made this mod (involving both the cable and the preamp), I broke the cable about 4 times by accidentally stepping on it onstage. After cussing an awful, awful lot, I finally spend about $100 extra bread to get Gary to install some real Neutrik 4 pin cable ends on both the pre and the cable so that this wouldn't happen again. It didn't.
Still, this is a special unit, and the mod is designed to have the female end of the 4-pin XLR mounted between the strings, so that all you have to do is plug a cable that looks like a mic cable between the bass and the preamp. I kept the mic mounted on the underside of my tailpiece, which was very convenient.
The ugliest part of the whole package is the back of the female 4-pin XLR at the end of the cable attached to the mic. Since I was mounting it on the bridge, it's basically just soldered onto the cable and then wrapped with elecrtical tape. (pics available, but they won't tell you much more than i just did).
So in short, this would be a good mic for someone who wants to mount the XLR connection between the strings, and who doesn't want to have to worry about breaking the standard cheesy cable onstage. I liked it a lot once I got Gary to mod the cable and pre, but got tired of carrying the pre around all the time once the new Focus heads came out. |

If anyone's seriously interested, I'll be happy to take a pic of the ugly backside of the stringmount jack. Gary does firstclass work, as you can see by his work on the pre. |

I'm also going to search in the next day or two for the kickback plates for the two red badge VL cabs. If I can find one or both, I'll be happy to put them back on or ship the cabs with so that there would be a choice. |
