FS: German laminate DB, approx. 50 yrs old (Wash DC area)

Laminated double bass by unknown German maker, probably made in the late 1940s. (A sticker on inside the body reads: "Made in Germany, US Zone"; that administrative jurisdiction existed between 1945 and 1949.) 3/4 size, 41.5" string length, D neck. Thick ebony fingerboard, with plenty of material for future dressings. New endpin, adjustable bridge, and tailwire installed about 14 months ago. Big sound, considerable richness and sustain for a plywood instrument.

Cosmetically nothing special, with some minor laminate chipping around the edges, but no open cracks or other known issues. As far as I can tell, the neck has never been cracked or reset.

Currently set up for jazz with Spirocore strings, but with different strings and setup would make an excellent bluegrass bass or a good orchestra instrument for an advanced beginner/intermediate student.

I gigged with it while my other bass was undergoing repairs and it served me well. Comes with K&K Double Big Twin pickup and nondescript but serviceable bag.

Asking $1950. Will consider reasonable offers, but no lowballing please. I don't have to sell.

I know now!

Part of what would become West Germany, but what was then known as Germany, US Occupation Zone (Bavaria and vicinity). Since that administrative region lasted from 1945-1949, that would indicate that the bass was made before 1950.

Edited the description in the lead post to suit, though I couldn't edit the estimated age in the thread title.
