| Gabute/Gagnon DB For Sale For sale is a Romeo Gabute Guarnerius design bass, circa 1996. Gabute's basses were distributed in the states by the Gagnon company, so they were also sometimes called Gagnon.
The bass is made entirely of Calantas, which gives is a very warm, rich sound. The sloping shoulders, 41.25" string length, and high bridge make it easy to play and get into and around thumb position. The upper bout is 20", lower bout is 26", and widest point at lower rib is 9".
There have been some issues with this bass; hopefully they have been taken care of for the most part. On the upper and lower ribs there have been some cracks due to aging. On the front plate there is a crack from someone leaning on the bass (don't ask). All cracks were professionally repaired, linened and cleated. There is one new minute crack on the lower rib that, while seems to be minor, will be something I'll let the new owner take care of as I'm going to be in the states for just a few more weeks.
I have used this bass in orchestral and jazz (small group and big band), and it's really an easy-playing, versatile instrument. I don't live in the US anymore, and am not playing this bass, so just need to sell it. Bass is located in Rochester, NY. Cannot ship; sorry.
