HEROLD JAEGER 3/4 DOUBLE BASS Czech1930’s

This is a 1933 Herald Jaegar double bass , made in Czechoslovakia and
in excellent condition with no major repairs.
Arco and pizzicato playing are both exceptional.

A brief description:
“Herald Jaegar" basses were made in the early 1930s.
Edgar Meyer owned a 1933 Jaegar and* was his primary instrument as a student.
The Jaegar has a superior varnish and sound to a Juzek
A honey-to-medium brown varnish that is quite durable and wears very well with age. The scrolls are rather elegant and well-rounded, having an extra volute turn. The rear of the pegboxes are also very nicely carved and finished. The bellies are made of close-grain spruce, and the backs are two piece matched grain maple and are are well rounded.
They are very powerful instruments.

In a quote from a HJ owner who states, " you've got one, hang on to it...if you have a chance to get one, buy it!"
More photos available to serious parties.
