Let me give you the low down on this bass. I purchased it is a fixer-upper in the Spring. It needed a new fingerboard, bridge, end-pin, etc. A few thousand in repairs for sure. I paid $2000 for it with the intention of putting a few grand into it and, bam, Juzek for $4000
. Well, the day after I bought the bass, my friend tripped over the end pin and fell on it resulting in a several cracks on the top from the F hole down.
I took the bass to Jeff Bollbach who estimated the bass to be worth $1000 as is. I spent $2000 on the bass and $200 on travel, so my friends home insurance policy cut me a check for $1200. So, you can see, all I'm trying to do is re-coup my initial investment.
Jeff's suggestion was to find someone who had a luthier that was willing to take on a long term project or even better a young luthier with the time to invest in what could end up being a fairly profitable project.
I am not willing to ship the bass for obvious reasons. Cash only. I live on the Upper West Side of Manhattan and I'm easy to get to, am a nice guy, and can offer a fine assortment of herbal teas since the weather in NYC is particularly nasty right now.
