| Kay Bass -- 1963 -- fully done up by luthiers - PHOTOS! We have here a Kay that was played for a while in New Orleans, then stored for a long time, then bought out and run through many luthiers. They include Gage, Canyon Music in Durango, and I believe one other I am forgetting at the moment. I've spent about $3k with the luthiers. What do you get for that?
You get a neck that has been removed (twice), and reset in an optimum, and straight, position. The extra glue and chips that Kay gives you from the factory was replaced with good joinery. The tailpiece and wire are Peconic (ebony), the nut's new, the bridge is new (best Aubert if I recall correctly), and it has some very fancy adjusters that cost more than average.
And, a best quality fingerboard (ebony) that is properly dressed, straight, and does not buzz.
The finish is in the top 10% of what you will see in Kays of this vintage. No delaminations.
Hope you see the value in this. $4k.
Photos are finally here! I am likely to have more than I can post so email requesting more if you wish.
