Left handed spruce top, maple sided flatback upright bass for sale. ¾ size, D neck. I bought this bass from a music store in North Vancouver about 15 years ago. There is a stamp inside the bass that says Sisak and appears to be what is commonly known as a bohemian bass built circa 1920.
The bass was in somewhat rough shape when I bought it. I hired Gerard Samija to restore it. He removed the top, tore out the old bassbar and put a new one in on the correct side for a left-handed player. The multiple cracks in the bass he repaired using linen and hide glue.
I eventually replaced the fingerboard with a fine piece of ebony from Lemur music.I have yet to have the neck dressed, so there's a ton of wood there (and no bevel for those interested in re-converting it back to right handed.)
I have loved this bass immensely from the time I started playing up to and including the day injuries convinced me to stop playing. It was quite a conversation piece while in Gerard's shop with numerous folks asking if it were for sale.
To hear a recording of this bass go to
http://cdbaby.com/cd/travissara. I did this session with just a bassoonist so you can really get a good feel for the tones this bass can provide.
Asking $10 000 CDN.
I'll post some pics of it sometime before the end of the weekend.
