| Palatino VE500 I picked up one of the Palatino EUBs locally a while back, and have really enjoyed playing it. I've enjoyed it so much in fact, I'd like to step up just a bit, and get an NS Wav. Consequently, I'm going to move out the Palatino.
This is a full scale (41 inch) , small bodied electric upright. It doesn't sound EXACTLY like a double bass, but it certainly gets close. Controls are a simple on/ off switch, and a passive volume and tone control. The body is hollow, so there is some acoustic sound.
The bass has the "standard" mods. I padded the piezo with the "shelf paper pad" that is so thoroughly discussed in the DB section. I replaced the crap strings with DAddario Helicore Pizz. lights.
I did place some marks on the bass side of the neck to help with my intonation (this was my first upright), but they aren't real noticable, and if you'd like, I'll try to get them off.
The bass is in good condition, with a few dings, but nothing that affects the sound or playability. The bass comes with a gig bag, and an extended brace that goes on the side so you can rest it against your body like a standard double bass. It is also very easy to use a cymbal stand for a stand for this instrument, if you don't want to lay it down between sets, etc.
If you are looking to get into an electric upright for not much cash, this is definitely the way to go.
