Pollmann Bass for sale

For Sale: A uniquely deep-bodied, beautifully carved, violin-cornered double bass with a lion's head scroll made by Gunter Krahmer-Pöllmann in 1973. Deep, reddish-brown varnish, ornamental carving along purfling and corners. Full-bodied, clear tone, great projection. Played for many years in the Munich Chamber Orchestra, now located in Washington, DC. (Would also be an exceptional instrument for jazz.) Asking $20,500 Pics at: http://homepage.mac.com/ratoyozo/PhotoAlbum5.html

Really? I'm curious - where did you see it? I've heard mention of another one as well, but when I lived in Munich, I took the bass to the Pollmann workshop, and Gunther Krahmer took one look at it and said "Of course I remember that bass - I only made one like that."

Yes, it will be a hard one to part with - we've been through a lot (School, auditions, my first 2 jobs, travel all over the world with the chamber orchestra). But I got my Lamy about 5 years ago, and the Pöllmann's been mostly sitting ever since, and it's really too nice an instrument to just be parked.

I should take out a loan and give it a good home.

Couldn't help but notice the great kid pics along with the bass. That one should be about 2 by now. You qualify for our Ancient Brotherhood of Poo. Click here and Follow me.....
