| Hello:
Due to financial obligations I am forced to sell a bass that is very dear to me. I restored this late 19th century German bass with the intent of using it primarily with gut strings and frets for period performance. First, I had the top off and the body completely restored. Next I had a copy made of an original bridge from Esterhazy made, the nut raised, a general setup done, and tied on the frets. The fingerboard is a beautiful Rosewood and the tailpiece is of matching wood and grain/color. Currently it is setup with a pine wooden endpin stained to match the chocolaty varnish. Has original hat peg style tuners.
Ideally I'd love to find this bass a new home - someone interested in performance practice. It could be setup in 4ths, 5ths, or Viennese tuning. All three sound lovely on this bass. I've played many concerts and a series of lecture recitals on this bass as a graduate student and the sound has really developed (or redeveloped) into a beautiful silky resonant sound. Save yourself the trouble of all the restoration work I had done and chancing if the bass will sound "good" in the end!
I'm asking for $9,000 OBO and I am located in Ithaca, NY.
