I've got an old Kay I need to sell, serial number puts it at 1953 or so.
I have played this one quite a bit but I always knew it could be much better with some work.
The good: its in pretty decent shape all in all, not too many scratches and dings for its age, original tailpiece/endpin/tuners/headstock w/scrolls/fingerboard
The bad: the neck was broken at the heel and the repair was sloppily done with epoxy. Its solid enough only the angle isn't great, the bridge thats on the bass (a Meisel) is all the way down and the action is pretty high, I can play it like that because its nice and loud acoustically, but most people find it a bit high. I can almost fit my hand between the strings and fingerboard at the bottom.
So I figure at the very least one could redo the nut, which is low, and get a shorter bridge, and therefore get the action down.
Or the ultimate solution is neck reset and setup.
Either way I'm pricing it low enough that even if you had all the work done, like a reset, you're still getting a good price on a great bass.
I'm in Philly and won't ship, come and see it/play it!
I'll start at $800, make an offer, I'm not in a hurry to sell so I'm not gonna take any lowball offers, but it would be good to know if I'm asking too much!
