EDIT: I have decided to sell this on eBay. I will close this thread it it sells.
I picked this up not too long ago. It is a project bass that I just don't have the time to work on. It is a 1967 Baby Bass with a white finish. The body has alot of wear and some goo drips on it. Overall, the body is fully functional and stable, albeit not very attractive. The neck is rough. It will need at least 2 new tuners. One isn't the right size, and the other slips as you turn it. Also some screw holes have been added and some have been enlarged. The screws actually go all the way through the peg box sides. To do it right, I would think that the holes would have to be filled and redrilled. The pegbox is pretty rough. The neck feels stable, but it has been through some rough times. The rings on the scroll look to have been replaced. They seem plastic-y. The fingerboard is a little 'chewed' up toward the end, but it is a pretty nice peice of lumber. The pickup is a replacement made by Sendel. It has a decent tone, but not quite like the original. The pickup plate, bridge and bridge guard are original. The tailpeice is original. The endpin was broken at some point and the remaining portion is really short. It has the year '67 pencilled on the neck where it inserts into the body, and the serial number dates it to the late 60's. Also, the fingerboard has the metal 'truss' rod that none of the copies have. I cannot guarantee the authenticity, but everything points to this being an old Ampeg that hasn't been treated with the respect it deserves. I hope someone can clean it up and get some use out of it.
The good news is that I was able to set up the bass and have it play nicely. If you have a bit of patience, you can really make this bass come back to life. I just don't have the time or the energy to do it right. If you have any further questions, please ask.
I would like to get $1400 plus shipping for it.
