For sale: Zeller 3/4 URB (central IL)

For sale: Andreas Zeller 3/4 size bass- SOLID WOOD construction throughout, flat back. Very sturdy, with a good sound. Asking $2250. Located in Springfield, IL, and will deliver (or meet) a buyer within 150 miles or so.

I bought this bass new in the UK in 1993 and have been playing it joyfully ever since. I used a K&K rockabilly pick-up and pre-amp set up with it to play rockabilly (not surprisingly), country, and lots of jazz.

Issues: As with most solid wood basses (so I'm told) the back would come unglued every few years to due heat and then need to be re-glued. This is usually simple enough, but one year I got my hands on some Gorilla Glue. Of course, no worries with ungluing after that, but my luthier was aghast (see photo). However, you can still unglue and get inside when needed. From what I can tell, this does not affect the sound (or the looks-- much).

Beyond this, there is some of the usual of the usual wear and tear on the body edges from the road, but it is in remarkably good shape otherwise. The bass bar and block are perfect, as is the neck. A little loving care would make this really a top-notch instrument.

Price drop

OK, how about $2K even? I'm not really in a rush to get the money, but a) I would like to get this instrument out of my humidifier room, and b) I would like to see someone playing my old baby. I would even be willing too discuss a lower figure, especially for someone really excited about it.

No, I haven't opened it up since then. But the top was opened (by my luthier) to re-set the post. Seemed to be no problem.

Kicking it down to $1900 OBO. Don't let the Gorilla Glue worry you-- this is a very good instrument. Let's talk...

My situation has changed a bit and I'm dropping the price to $1000-- this baby must go, or the local high school is getting it.
