Max cat5 cable length?

Hey all,

I have a Bass Pod Pro and the floorboard (not the short). I need to lengthen the cat5 cable that goes between the two pieces...I have a 10 footer and a 25 footer...25 footer doesn't work because I suppose it's too long (voltage drop and all that).

Short of clipping off a foot at a time off the 25 footer and installing an RJ45 connector until it starts working, does anyone know how long I can go before it doesn't work any longer?

A 25 foot cable should work fine.

IIRC, the maximum cable length is 50 feet.

Thanks...maybe I have a bad 25' cable then...I plugged it in and it seemed to work at first but then didn't after a couple of minutes...plugged the shorter one in and it was fine...the 25 footer I tried was one I had kicking around the house...maybe I'll just go buy the cat5 cable and build my own...that way I know it'll work...allegedly

As line6man mentioned, 50 ft would be the max. Anything over that will give you problems.
