Have you played many other distortion pedals? Can you compare the El Oso to anything?

Vlad5 01-19-2013 12:57 AM

The El Oso reminded me of a Rat with low-end. It didn't sound exactly like a Rat, just reminded me of one based on its gain structure.

The El Oso sounds better than a Rat to me, fuller sound, less upper mid focused, less buzzy.

Got any clips of the Timmy? Always been curious of how it would sound on bass.

No, sorry I don't.
In fact, I never hooked my bass up to it, only guitar.
Also, this drive is very dynamic in that it will sound like an angel's loving whisperings with one person's gear, and an ogre farting in a pickle jar on another's.
So really, descriptions and examples are kinda useless...

You just gotta try it with your gear and see if it works.
It's like a Klon in that respect I guess.
Some love it, others think it's way overhyped.
I fit somewhere in between, I guess.

I will say that it is a very nice and well thought out drive. And the build quality is high.
I'm selling it because I've come to realize that I simply don't need a drive pedal for my guitar board.

Hmmm, ok... compared to an EQD Monarch at 18v I'd say the Monarch is raspier, while the Timmy is warmer... The Monarch is crisper, while the Timmy is mushier (but in a good way).
These comparisons are with a Schecter Devil Spine w/ a single bridge DiMarzio Petrucci humbucker and Kerly jazz heavy strings (so metal).

Timmy is sold!
El Oso is still here.

Does the El Oso come with a bonus gift of a Submarine designer? hehe

Bump so we can all see fills the empty spot on your board.

Vlad5 01-22-2013 11:58 AM

I think that spot is gonna remain unfilled for now...

Vlad5 01-24-2013 05:12 AM

That El Oso is a solid pedal bump. Someone pick this puppy up!

Vlad5 02-20-2013 04:35 PM

I know!

I keep looking at it, all snug in it's box looking all badass and such... I truly wish I could use it with my rig, but it's just too redundant with all the other awesome crap I have on my board.

If it helps....PRICE DROP!!!

And thanks for the bump JS!

I like your webpage too, timely article on time management since I have a portfolio/master's thesis due in like 3 weeks. Time management is getting critical!

Vlad5 03-01-2013 01:04 PM

c'mon friends, don't make me put this back on my board....

LawrenceKanter 03-01-2013 01:27 PM

A bump for the bear. I just got one -- cool pedal, lots of versatility, from subtle to mammoth.

Vlad5 03-03-2013 11:23 PM

Thanks for the bump!
