"Special Recipe" = flatter voiced, light overdrive. Bass and presence trim pots make this pretty good for bass and pretty tweakable from a tone standpoint.

Electro-Harmonix Germanium OD
Pretty fun to play with bias and volts knobs. You can get anywhere from "classic 60's distortion" to farty craziness, with some interesting sounds along the way. And it's pretty cheap. Try it through the effects loop of a 3-Leaf Groove Regulator for the closest thing to Sir Psycho Sexy tone that I've been able to produce.
