FS: ZVEX Woolly Mammoth

The woolly mammoth is in mint condition. I bought it a few weeks ago, but I just can't get it to sound right with my active basses. It sounds wicked awesome with my Jazz and Precisions though.

I can let it go for 240$ shipped. Comes with original box and paper work, and even that red piece of cloth they wrap it in!

What sounds bad about with an active bass? I'm interested but my bass is active and a very hot bass as well.

When I play a passive bass through it, the harmonics sound great. In the upper registers is sounds like a vintage fuzz and down low it has lots of growl and mids, and the compression is pleasant to the ear. Also, the since it's gated, the threshold for the noise gate just sounds "right" for lack of a better word.

My active basses seem to not gel with the noise gate. When I pluck lightly it burps and farts and sounds inconsistent, not to mention the overdrive goes from smooth/creamy to buzzy and nasally. It's not pleasant.

I've heard that modding an impedance buffer into the input can help the problem. I just don't want to expend the time or money. Rather just stick with my Oxide.

I found that just turning the volume way down on an active bass and the volume way up on the Mammoth worked fine...this was years ago and maybe dependent on the bass(?)
