FT Pigtronix Philosopher's Tone Germanium Gold Ltd Edition
For your consideration, I present: the limited edition Germanium Gold Philosopher's Tone! Sold exclusively through Pro Guitar Shop in Portland, OR.
Besides looking much cooler with its gold sparkle enclosure, this one has a germanium distortion circuit, controlled by the Grit knob. I've played around with the standard Philosopher's Tone and found that version's Grit to be pretty unusable on guitar and bass -- the distortion sounded awful and cheap, like opening a can of bees. With the germanium diode, this one sounds warm, fat, and organic. It's awesome to be able to blend in a little bit of warm gain to the signal to get a fat, tube-like compression. Or you can blend it with a higher gain setting to make it sound like you're playing through a clean amp and an overdriven amp at the same time. Or have a super distorted compression, or don't use any of the Grit at all.
Of course, it's a compression pedal first and foremost, and the compression is great. It isn't based on the same circuit that most other compressors are based on; you can get fairly squashed tones with it if you want, but it excels at giving you virtually infinite clean sustain without changing your tone too much.
Pedal is in perfect condition, since I only used it a few times at home. Includes the power adapter, box, and everything else that came with it. Pretty much brand new.
As for trades... I'm seriously open to anything, send me some offers! Off the top of my head, I'm interested in an EHX Bass Microsynth, anything Fuzzrocious (already have a Rat Tail), Malekko B:assmaster, Tronographic Rusty Box, other compressor... offer me something!
Thanks for looking!
