The mxr is a transparent pedal, can go from super mild compressor settings, heavy compressing, to hard peak limiting settings. No low end loss as you would except from a bass compressor. If you need a compressor at a reasonable price, i'd say go for it. here's bongo's take: MXR M87 Bass Compressor
