Hey Adam,
It's that time of year to start the application process for college. I'm living in the Toronto area and have a line on a few quality bass teachers whose programs I will apply to. I was wondering if you had off hand a few really good teachers and which school they are at so I could check out their program, studios, facilities, etc. I'll go anywhere, location means nothing.. just want to be exposed to and learn from the best.
Any info would be great,
Thanks,
Dave |

| | | | hi dave!
man, i wish i could be a better resource for you, but i'm honestly not too familiar with current offerings in a lot of locations. of course, schools like berklee, north texas, and miami are well-known for their music, and any of them would make a great choice. however, all are located in different parts of the country and subsequently have different 'vibes' in their respective towns. belmont here in nashville is actually a really good school, as well. i can't really speak about specific instructors, as i'm not acquainted with too many of them. sorry about that. there's always the smaller, certificate type programs, as well, such as the players' school, atlanta institute of music, and los angeles music academy, etc... not sure of the curriculum any of them uses currently, but they might be worth checking out, as well. sorry i couldn't be of more help to you! |

I studied at Humber College in Etobicoke a few years ago in their "Jazz and Contemporary Music" degree. It's a very well-rounded program and they have a great roster of instructors, including Mike Downes, Paco Luviano, and Rich Brown. I highly recommend it, especially as how it'd be local for you.
Cheers,

+1 to the diploma. There are tons of great places to go to for that...and you don't have to take math and science classes...

Most of them went to their local music school, or where they got a scholarship too. It's really not THAT important to go to the absolute best, it's more how much hunger and passion you have for learning.
All IMHO. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
