hey adam i was just reading your articles about the ear training and i think that is exactly what any musician should be seeking...anyways the reason that iam writing now this thread is because i am living in egypt!!and there is not alot of musicians here so what do you think about a teacher... so iam in my own teaching myself throw the dvds books and articles but i always feel there is something missing and feel that iam taking the wrong road in my practicing....so i would like to take your opinion about my practicing session:

stretching : 15 mins

warming up : 10 mins(just walking over the fretboard up and down..)

spider tech : 15 mins

hammering : 15 mins

string crossing : 15 mins

picking finger speed : 15 mins

scales chords and arpp. : 60-80 mins

covers : 30 - 60 mins

cool down + improvisation : 30-60 mins

so what do you think about this practicing session??!should i give more attention and time to something and less to other thing?!and right now iam just playing over the major scale and chords should i put more scales and chords like the blues or pentatonic or whatever...??or should i keep goin on what iam doing

hey there!

thanks for the post. looks like you're doing some great work in your routine. if you have the time though, i would suggest further diversifying by including some specific ear training and transcription work. this will help to make your other exercises to connect more with the application on the bass. applied harmony and theory would be great for you, as well, which you can work on in your improvisational time... i also didn't see any time devoted to reading, which i think would also be a great asset to you. bottom line is, you want to make sure to balance your pattern based studies with exercises and drills that are more ear and application-centered, so that you maintain progress in your musicianship at all times. hope that helps some,

keep up the great work!!!
