Question about Aguilar Endorsement

Hi Adam

Could you maybe give a little insight into what the Aguilar amps and cabinets do for your sound as opposed to the Eden rigs you used? I am an Eden user and have been really satisfied with the product for years. I have a 1997 WT800 bought new in 97 and a D212XLT and do really enjoy them.

Now however I am really interested in the Aguilar line. Specifically the DB212 and somewhere down the road a DB750 but that'll have to wait until next year. I bought the Tone Hammer because I was doing a musical and didn't want to risk whatever amp they gave and sure enough ... I had all the tone shaping I needed. I just picked up the octamizer and one of the endorsees on the web site has a setting called Stevie-Love. It sounds just like the tone on Boogie on Reggae Woman. It seems everything they make is great and thought I'd ask your opinion.

Incidentally ..... I'm thrilled that someone of your caliber and virtuosity has taken an interest and participated with the Navy School of Music! It's really a great institution. I was in as an electric bass/tuba back in 1981 to 1989 and during my last 2 years in the Navy I was the electric bass instructor there. Randy Brecker came down and did a clinic and WOW.....Was it ever a thrill. Now mind you ... he's a trumpet player ..... I do believe they have finally seen the light and brought in BASS!!!! Very cool that you did that!

Jim
Thanks so much!

hi jim-

sorry for the delay in posting back. i did really enjoy my time at the navy school of music. i've been there twice already, and hope to get there again next year. it was an honor to share and perform there, and i met so many incredible people.

as for my rigs, i actually was playing swr amplification for 12 years prior to my switch to aguilar this past january, 09. i still love the equipment and have kept most of the swr gear that i used. after 12 years, i decided to just move a different direction and was seeking inspiration from using a new rig and cultivating a new relationship with another bass amp manufacturer. the aguilar bass rigs i have now have a different character to them than the swr stuff... for me personally, i feel like the db750 and db751 heads are kind of a marriage between more traditional vintage tones and a more modern hi-fi sound. they are extremely sensitive and responsive to the dynamics of how you play, and i have found that they are a nice compliment to active basses that might have a tendency to sound more brash... seems to me like they really smooth out the overall tone for instruments like these by 'rounding out the edges'. of course, they sound amazing on my passive basses, as well. in addition to my 750 and 751's, i also have an ag500. that is a super-cool piece, as well... it has a dirty channel on it that i use all the time for recording. although it's solid state, it has incredible warmth to it. i currently am using the db heads with 2 db 410 cabs and the ag500 head with 2 db112 cabs. the aguilar 12" speakers are fantastic... in fact, they are the first 12's that i've ever used in a live rig. they are incredible full range reproducers, without any of the 'boxiness' that you sometimes hear from 12" speakers. they also seem to be able to take high-db beatings pretty well...
