hi jim-
sorry for the delay in posting back. i did really enjoy my time at the navy school of music. i've been there twice already, and hope to get there again next year. it was an honor to share and perform there, and i met so many incredible people.
as for my rigs, i actually was playing swr amplification for 12 years prior to my switch to aguilar this past january, 09. i still love the equipment and have kept most of the swr gear that i used. after 12 years, i decided to just move a different direction and was seeking inspiration from using a new rig and cultivating a new relationship with another bass amp manufacturer. the aguilar bass rigs i have now have a different character to them than the swr stuff... for me personally, i feel like the db750 and db751 heads are kind of a marriage between more traditional vintage tones and a more modern hi-fi sound. they are extremely sensitive and responsive to the dynamics of how you play, and i have found that they are a nice compliment to active basses that might have a tendency to sound more brash... seems to me like they really smooth out the overall tone for instruments like these by 'rounding out the edges'. of course, they sound amazing on my passive basses, as well. in addition to my 750 and 751's, i also have an ag500. that is a super-cool piece, as well... it has a dirty channel on it that i use all the time for recording. although it's solid state, it has incredible warmth to it. i currently am using the db heads with 2 db 410 cabs and the ag500 head with 2 db112 cabs. the aguilar 12" speakers are fantastic... in fact, they are the first 12's that i've ever used in a live rig. they are incredible full range reproducers, without any of the 'boxiness' that you sometimes hear from 12" speakers. they also seem to be able to take high-db beatings pretty well...
