Adam, I see you're offering the Improv Class again beginning on Oct 21, what level of playing ability would I need to be at to get value out of the class? I'm a true hobbyist and took up the bass a few years ago in my late 30s, I play mostly classic rock/blues/stax type stuff but want to get into Jazz. Please give my some thoughts about what skills you think a student needs and what level playing ability they should have to make it through your course materials.

hey there!

actually, the class starts again on wednesday, 9/21 and runs for 6 weeks. if you've been playing for a while and already have a decent technical foundation on the instrument (i.e. you don't struggle with playing basic patterns and forms, etc.) then you have what you need. improv level 1 starts at the very beginning and presents concepts, forms, and exercises that move you in the direction of improvising your own unique ideas. in the first running of the course, we had folks from all different backgrounds and experience levels, and none of the students had any trouble keeping up. i try to present the information in a way that is somewhat universal, so that the lessons learned can apply to other genres of music, as well. if you can join us, we'd love to have you! let me know if you have any other questions-
