Warmer Tone

Sign in to disble this ad
Just a simple question....
Could or would I achieve a warmer tone from my GK 1001 RB-II by using a bass eq like the BOSS CEB-7 OR a tube preamp?

Also, are there any other "warmer" sounding heads that I should consider ?

Thanks so much in advance!

Peace ;^)

Have you messed with the contour?
listen close and just minor increments will start taking the "grind" / harshness out
too much and you'll scoop too much (sounds good in the house) on a gig you wont hear yourself

same with hi mid and hi ~ roll them back slightly

if you get the upper mids to "settle", then Boost can get very cool
it'll sit in a different spot which you can use for some tube-ish warmth

but...
what Cab are you running it through & what Bass do you play?

"warmth" also comes from right hand approach

the GK eq is pretty musical, imo, don't get the Boss EQ, maybe a compressor..

the GK 700RBII is warmer as is the MB500, MB fusion & 800RB, TC electronics RH 450

I'm sure TBers will be chiming in with "warmer" suggestions

Thanks for the advice....!

I'm currently running a GK 410 and a 212 NEO cab with an MTD Kingston ZX 4 active bass.

unclekebm's got it right ^. Any head with an EQ on it can sound 'Warm' and, like he said, right hand technique has a lot to do with it as well! I think that great right hand technique is possibly the most important attribute a bass player can possess. Set the pre on you MTD to flat, and dial in the head.
