Warrior Signature 6?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi Adam,
Can you please share with me why you play a Warrior 6? I am contemplating ordering a signature 6 string but would like a few pros and cons from an expert on this instrument. Thank for any input you may have! Joe

hi peacetree-

the warrior 6 string that i have is a personal signature model that i actually helped to design in an effort to build an instrument that fit my needs both tonally and ergonomically. at the time, i was endorsing warrior basses, and we had been talking for a little while about building an instrument that was a little more carefully suited to my playing style in the context of my own music. so, that bass was a little more of an exercise in building something custom to suit rather than my having chosen a bass that they had already made... i no longer endorse warrior basses, but that bass is still my main 6 string right now, and is a fantastic instrument. compared to a regular 'signature series' warrior, mine has a slightly more narrow body, a more customized version of the bartolini preamp, and is made of woods that i chose specifically in an effort to capture a particular tone. my bass is a neck-through construction that is made of walnut, flame maple, and purpleheart. the fingerboard is purpleheart, as well. the one i play now was actually the 2nd prototype built, which then inspired the production of the 'adam nitti signature' bass, now no longer in production. the bass does a great job of providing a very thick and growly fingerstyle tone, while still maintaining roundness in the low end department... it has an 18mm spacing at the bridge, and is about 55mm wide at the nut. the bartolini soapbar pickups are at a placement that allows for a decent slap tone without coming across as being too scooped in the midrange... it also has the ability to be setup with VERY low action. it's a great bass all-around, but like any other bass it can't do everything. for example, it's not going to give you a super 'traditional' type of tone, as it is targeted a little more at low-midrange punch... also, it's not super-heavy, but it's not super-light, either. my scale shows its weight at 9.6 lbs.

hope that helps!

Thanks so much for the kind words. I actually have something in the works right now along those lines that I am evaluating, but will have to wait and see what the outcome is. But yes, I would like to see the design continued somehow. I'm just not sure yet where things will end up.

Great to hear that thereŽs some possibility! If you restart producing the "Warrior Adam Nitti Signature" for sure IŽll have at least one!

I have the first production bass of the Warrior Adam Nitti Signature series. Was delivered at Christmas time back on '03.

I still can't play anything like you, Adam. What's up with that?

Hello Adam,
In your description of your Warrior Bass you describe the ability to get "very low action". I too like my action very low and was wondering if you are more sensitive to changes that the bass experiences dealing with humidity because of the "very low action". I always feel that I'm chasing the perfect set up.

Thank you for your input.

oh yeah... i'm WAY sensitive to changes like that... to the point of being obsessive. but i just make adjustments as needed. fortunately, most of my main basses are relatively stable these days.

HI Adam,

For good or ill I am going to plug you here old friend.

I met Adam about the time I got exposed to Warrior and JD back in 1988/89 after I was fired from the Christian band Sacred Fire (Right after Singer Jimi Bennett). Jimi Introduced me to both JD and Adam. Adam was 16, and was a blistering head cutting player. Made me want to give up, but we became friends, not real close though. (evne sold him my speaker cabinet)

He worked hard, got some good breaks, studdied with Russ Rodgers (awesome jazz player) endured 1 year at Ga State School of Music (I endured 2 years myself before joining Sacred Fire). His talent is a force of Nature.

I think the world of the man, still to this day.

I got a Warrior for a guy out of Pawn and found out what JD was made of. Unprofessional, non-communicative, and arrogant. I would have prefered that things could have worked out for the better for folks, but I am sure that Adam was always an asset to the efforts of Warrior.

I got rid of the Instrument (a Studio 5, QM BirdsEye Neck and Board, Neck Through) which others I played with loved and I enjoyed as then the best Bass I ever owned and one of the Best I ever played (having Exposure to Fodera and some home built by one Gaddis Tippet of Down East NC, all very enjoyable).

I got rid of it becasue I knew I could not replace it if anything ever happened to it.

Learning from Adam when I last saw him in 2005 (and he let me play his individual Bass) I decided that Barts and Bolt on was what I wanted, as I get rather percussive.

I found what I wanted in Ibanez BTBs. I have 4 of them, a 6 and 5 with Barts, a 6 Fretless with Ibanez pups, and a 5 with Ibanez pups.

I had them set up by Rick Asher of Rick's Music in Knoxville. 2mm at the 12th on the Low B, and 1 mm or less on the Highest strings. (After playing Adam's Bass I learned first hand of what he writes here about obsessive about low action!)

I bring this up because Rick's work was so much better than JD's operation (Warrior). These midline basses play even more fluidly than the Warrior and the sound is at least as good, infact I like the VariMid3 EQ, not too bright and easy to get what I want.

Price and JD is what killed the experience for me. Rick Asher changed my world and it ROCKS!

Shame Ibanez changed eq's and is neck through now.

I would never play another Warrior. I would never want anyone thinking that they were dealing with a professional much less a Chrisitian when seeing me play one.

Looking at the GAS horizion I see Status Basses (England), BassLab's Doubleneck (Germany), and David King (Seattle). Nothing else draws my attention for look and specs thesedays, but the Rick Asher set up will be the thing that each instrument must be able to hold to be in my inventory.

If you want a peice of Art with no resale value, this will make you happy. It will not play its best out of the factory, you have to see Rick in Knoxville for that.

Peace, Blessings, and Bass, especially to you Adam...all the Best

JeX,

I made my point.

I expect Adam to be heard by even more players if they build him a SIG

Well JeX and Blue,

The Ibanez SoundGear Nitti is in.

It will be the Main.

Warrior is history. If they could not, or refused to, build anything with Adam, they can make no future for themselves.

While my beef was that Warrior was not about the customer nor the Instrument, The fact in the end is, it is the Player.

Blessings Adam! Tear it up!
