Book for 9 year old: ABCs of Bass

I've been using the ABCs of Bass for my fourth-grade double bass student so I thought I'd report back.

I'm very pleased with this book - that's it in a nutshell. The book begins with first position, not half position, which I really like, and introduces the strings from the first to the fourth.

In addition, it uses only the first and fourth fingers, teaching the notes on the second and fourth virtual frets, if you will. Plenty of easy, folk-like tunes.

So far, we have avoided putting tape marks on the bass - I play along with my student probably 3/4 of the time during her lessons and we talk about intonation. In addition, she has a chromatic tuner and I've suggested using it while also practicing long notes - gets you bowing practice, intonation practice, and builds hand/finger strength.

That's the news from here. I also got a book called My First Simandl (or something like that) that I looked at in more detail earlier this week, and it's definitely more advanced and we will wait, although that may become book #2 for us when we reach the end of this one.
