Question 2 strings bass, but rythm ?

Sign in to disble this ad
hello guys !

i hope i post in the right place

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2lrjse3Rp0k

this is a 2 strings bass ive seen on youtube, i like the sound even if the bass design isnt what i like but that bass make me laugh

but my main question is, how to count the rythm ? i've already asked some guys, they said first part may be 5/4 4/4 4/4 4/4
im ok with 17 beats, but i wonder if counting that way was the good way.

i dont really expect to play his line, but i like so much this groove i wonder how is it done

That's the way I would count it.

Yeah, that's exactly what's going on. I call that kind of odd meter concept a "stumble" groove - it's essentially 4/4, but with an extra beat thrown in somewhere in the center. The opposite of this would be a "hiccup" groove - same idea but with a beat missing.

ho yes "strumble" is a nice word, its what i feel

but couldn't it be something like 4/4 4/4 5/4 4/4, or maybe with some 3/4 ?

Theoretically it could be any combination adding up to 17 beats, but the feel of the accents is definitely grouped 5/4/4/4.

Well, you can COUNT it 3+3+3+3+3+2, but time signatures aren't math - they're based on the actual music. If you listen to the subdivisions, it's pretty clear that there's a bar of 5, then three bars of 4.

between 0:20 and 0:22, is this some sextuplets (sextolets) or some triolets ?

(i hope thats the good words, sorry for my english)
(and lol look at his thumb)

i feel like an increasing speed, so i guess it should be some sextuplets. but if we are considering the beats at 220bpm shouldnt it be some triolets ?

At 0:20 I just hear a couple of 32nd notes in there in addition to the usual 16ths, no triplet subdivisions.
