I'm pretty sure you can play Pull Me Under on a 4. I think I played it on a 5 but never used the low B - instead of fretting the E on the low B I just hit the open E.

Thats the only DT song I can play lol

i learned the main riff of panic attack on a 4 a long time ago... you can play almost any song of theirs on a 4, just change the octave.

Anything of When Dream and Day Unite as the whole album was played / recorded on a 4-string.

I believe all of Images and Words is played on a 4, so that opens a lot of songs. Metropolis has some cool passages. Also, Erotomania is on a 4 and is fun to play.

Thanks a lot! Definetelly looking into those now!

Also,if you can name any specific "challenging" 4 str. songs...Playing Another Day isn't improving anything you know, but Ytse Jam is definatelly helping.

As said, anything from WDADU and IAW - their two first albums - was recorded on a 4-string and is thus playable on a 4.

A challenging song - well that depends on what you find to be challenging. I for one spent a lot of time trying to master Metropolis pt.1 - especially the instrumental middle section. I still haven't quite got it.
But also the song Pull Me Under has some (for me) tough parts in it, particularily the unison bit in the middle.

I've actually been fiddling around with The Dark Eternal Night on a 4 lately. It works fine, but just sounds a bit higher. Endless Sacrifice's main-riff is just D on a 4, anything recent of thiers past that you can pretty much just throw in C (albeit muddy as hell...) Seeing them twice last week has really got me gasin' for a sixer!

Best encore ever btw.

Yeah like said before go with Dream Theater's first 2 albums and you'll be safe, but just look out for Take the Time, because he detuned for that one.

The first time I heard the dark eternal night, I thought oh god THEY'VE GONE METALLICA! Nuts! I kinda didn't listen to the whole song attentively for a week or so, then I noticed how bad-ass the breakdown is and the ending riff rips. Watching the Special Edition making of the song helped too, and live Rudess just steals the show on a 10 minute solo. Everytime I see them he always reminds me he's got the most talent in the band!

Usually I just up some of the low B notes an octave, and lower the high C notes down an octave. Alone, you can hear a little difference, but with a band, it's not really that noticeable unless you have to do a solo, which I'd just do around and past the 12th fret of the neck so it can be heard clearly.

Under a glass mirros is four string. Its pretty easy though that first root octave section in unison with the drums is challenging to get tight

He used a hipshot tuner and tuned down to C at different points in the song. It is recorded on a 4...

Though obviously now he plays it on his 5/6.

You can play pretty much anything before Awake, except Take the Time because it uses the C#.
