4 string fretted to 4 string fretless

I have been playing bass for about one year on a squire vintage modified precision. I was thinking about getting a new bass for this upcoming christmas. I am thinking about a custom Tom Clement bass, something like this: http://www.clementbass.com/web/Galle.../Clement%20051.

I was wondering how hard the transition would be between a fretted and fretless. Is one year sufficient enough to start playing a fretless?

One might even start on fretless from scratch. Be prepared to take a major backstep, Use this:
