Question 5 string question & too low?

Sign in to disble this ad
currently i have my 5 string tuned BEADG...

and i just got it setup, it plays great.. however at high volumes through my amp, the low B i think it just too low...

i have a SVT 4pro and a SVT 6x10 cabinet..

i was thinking about taking off the B string, and going with a EADGC tuning... would this be bad for the setup of the guitar?

thoughts? advice?

How do you mean the low B is too low? You don't like the sound of it, or the amp doesn't reproduce it well enough? That cab should push the low B out pretty well - I used a SVT 4x10 for a while and it sounded great.

As far as the different tuning affecting your setup - it will throw off your intonation and string height, and the neck may react to the different string tension, so yes you'll need a new setup.

I've been playing a 5 tuned EADGC for about six months now and I love it, but the tuning may not really suit your style. I'm really into high, dense chords and melodic playing and it works perfectly for me.
