5-String tuning question

Hi all, I'm not sure which forum to post this but I thought I would try it here.

Anyway I have a 5-String and haven't really used it much at all. Our tuning is Bb , F, Bb, Eb which is low so I was curious what I would tune that fat low B-string on the bass to. Right now I tuned it to F, Bb, F, Bb, Eb.

Does this sound normal for most 5 string tunings, to match it to your A string just an octave down? I'm sure I could tune it whatever I like but this seems right in my head.

I guess any thoery on how 5 string tunings work would be awesome since I don't understand it much, or direct me to a page explaining it. Hopefully no one will tear me apart.

If I were you I'd tune it Bb F Ab Db Gb. It'd probably be a lot easier to set up, for one. It's probably really hard to hear that low F unless you have some kind of 21 inch subwoofer or something, but then I'm no expert.

I would tune it Bb Eb Ab Db Gb.

Thanks for the input guys, but I don't think changing our tuning is an option. Its our guitar players tuning that's stuck in his head for years now.

Maybe a better question is if it was you using this Bb, F, Bb, Eb tuning what would you tune your b-string to?
