between missing songs and different changes, yeah people would rather keep using the 5th edition.

It has the Zappa songs taken out and one other song.
And the changes are different because they are corrected.
A lot of the older guys use the fifth Edition, but tons of the new editions are just as common now especially by music students.

No doubt, the standard (at least in the states) is the 5th edition still.

I had an interesting conversation about the wrong changes in the 5th. A guy I was discussing this with said that the wrong changes are now right because so many people are playing them. Interesting thought....

Edit - NJL could probably turn you on to a source in San Antonio if you can't find someone local. (PM me for his name)

The vast majority of the chord changes are better in the 6th edition. I can only think of a couple where I like the old changes better.

I did a bit of searching and found no 5th edition RB's. Ended up at the Hal Leonard site and found Vol. 2/3, sixth edition and others, but no fifth.
Bummer, because I too play with guys that still like to work out of the 5th Ed.

Let us know what you find.

That's because the fifth edition and all previous ones are illegal. You've always had to buy them at music stores, and they've always been under the table transactions. They're getting harder and harder to find these days, and you really need to know the right people in order to buy one at a music store.

I agree the 5th edition is still the standard. But I wouldn't say no one likes it. I have both editions and I would probably use the fifth edition if I were an active musician. But yeah in order to get the fifth edition you'd have to know somebody from what I hear. Theres only two other options I know of.

Get the PDF version and print out your missing pages

Or

Get it from Over Seas for 50 bucks. The last copy.

If you think about getting the PDF version let me know.

Personally, I generally like the changes in the Chuck Sher books better than those in any of the "real" Real Books. Also, the Sher books have been 100% legal from the beginning and have always paid the composers. Which matters to me.

But you'd have to spend a lot more money ($40 per volume) on Sher volumes to cover all the tunes in the Real Books, and I'm not even sure all of them would be covered.
