Accordian & Bass: Harmful To Your Ears?

Sign in to disble this ad
This Sunday, our worship team will be drastically reduced in numbers leaving only me and our drummer who has said he will play his accordian. Has anyone heard this combination before and will the congregation flee in horror? Two of the songs we'll be doing are "The Power Of Your Love" and "Jesus, All For Jesus".

That is the drummer's attempt at humor. There will no more fleeing than normal.

few months ago someone posted his video around here (soory can't find it...) and he was playing some balkan style with drums, bass, and accordion in his living room, and it was amazing... of course it's a different style but it was amazing (if anybody can post it again I'd love to see it)

Tks for the replies. I practiced a little yesterday accompanying the accordian to 6 songs and wow, was it difficult! Our drummer turned accordian player liked to play mostly in the key of F (not my favourite) and although I previously had no problem playing the songs with a keyboardist, guitarist & drummer, I got lost a few times accompanying just the accordianist. The two of us play tomorrow and I'm thinking of wearing a paper bag over my head.

On a Bassics sample CD once, I heard a Drum and Bass group with accordian - it was very hip.

Back in the 90's I played a bunch of shows at the Gold Dollar down in Detroit. It's in the Cass corridor, kinda artsy by Detroit standards but still a rough neighborhood. The place mostly booked punk rock and indie type shows, but also a fair amount of improvised music and noisy art rock. One time I did a show down there with a guy playing accordion, just a duo, mostly improvised. It was a good night until we went to pack up and go home. Someone had smashed the window in my friends car and left two more accordions in the back.

Accordion can be utterly fantastic.
In fact I'm learning to play the cromatic button accordion myself these days. It's great fun, believe it or not.
