Question Adam Nitti 'Mastering Right and Left Hand Technique' Class?

Sign in to disble this ad
Has anyone taken Adam Nitti's 'Mastering Right and Left Hand Technique' class at Music Dojo? There is an upcoming class starting in April that I was thinking about taking, but I haven't ever used MD before.

Also, I would love to hear about any other courses that anyone has taken at MD and their experiences.

Just finished the course

I just finished the course this Friday. It gave a lot a of good exercises along with audio and video examples. There's a new lesson every day so you get a lot of information fast. Try to keep up but don't worry if you miss a day. All previous lessons are available for review. I printed out the lessons and assignments and put them in a notebook so I can use them in the future.

If you have questions you can leave a message for Adam and he'll get back to you quickly.

I'd say go ahead and take the course. You'll definitely learn something.

I took it awhile back, and I still go back to the lessons from time to time. Once you sign up for the course even after completing it you can always go back to the lessons. I'm not sure if there's a time limit though. What I did was save the html pages on my computer so I have a quick reference.

I would say go for it if you have never had a chance to study with Adam he is a great teacher and don't be afraid to ask questions. Unlike other teachers Adam doesn't hold back and will tell you everything he knows.

Adam is an amazing teacher. I'm currently studying with him and he really really really knows his stuff. You can't go wrong in taking any of his courses.

I'm sure some of his classes are great, but I took the mastering right and left hand techniques class a while ago and I didn't find it all that useful. If I remember well, most of what I learned was to practice all the different permutations with 4 fingers. For example, 1234, 1243, 1342, etc.

I mean, this is a great thing to practice, but most of the times, it was like today do this: 1234, 1243, next day do 1342, 1324, etc. It would have been okay if that had been one lesson, but to make so many lessons of the same exercise I thought was useless. Imo, you're better off by developping your own exercises than taking this course.

Digging up an old thread

Sorry for digging this up, but I was going to post a new subject and I KNOW how some of you like that...

Anyway, I'm finishing the course this Friday (Mastering Left hand / Right hand) and I can't say enough good things about it.

It does exactly what is advertised - cleans up bad habits and replaces them with good technique. I can already see it making a difference in my playing.

Some people will complain of "boring exercises" but that's exactly what develops muscle memory. Once your hands and fingers move without too much thought, it frees your brain for playing ideas. Otherwise you're spending too much concentration on fingering.

One advantage of practising permutations is to develop independence of your hands. I have found that my playing is much improved in timing and volume.

I've been playing for 16 years now and I wish I had taken this course on day one!

Its never too late to lose bad habits.

I actually did sign up and take this course. I'm glad I did too. I agree with Andrew, in that it's not the most fun thing to practice. However, if you want to take your playing to a higher level good technique is a must.

Adam does a great job laying out the course material in a practical way. And he is very good at explaining things. I also took Adam's Jazz Improv 1 course and found it to be quite good. I'd recommend any of his classes to anyone thinking of trying out MusicDojo.

Any time you can get instruction from Nitti.... DO IT. I studied with him for about a year before he moved to Nashville. Incredible player, obviously, super nice guy, and an absolutely great teacher. And to be more direct, yes the class is worth it. It was part of my first couple of months taking lessons with him, and it definately gets you in shape.
