I'd to know what some of your very first AH HA moments were.

If I wasn't bitten by the bug the first week I was playing than I'm certainly bitten now. I just had my first really AH HA moment. Now, there have been a few others early in the first week even such as learning the fingering of the major and minor scales and playing your first one without looking. Minor but still a fun moment for a very beginning bass player I'd think.

But the moment I'm speaking of is the first time you stopped playing after a practice session and realized for the first time that bass didn't feel like a foreign object in your hand. I felt like I was more in control of it than it was me. I guess that's the best way to describe it.

Hey for this 42 year old that just starting playing on September 1st it was exciting. I have my first formal lesson tomorrow and looking forward to that too.

In case your wondering what I was doing during that practice, I spent some time doing some scales and played some very simple walking basslines to a metronome.

After doing that I played around a little and noticed that my fingers aren't really hurting much at all considering a week earlier. I then put in Roxanne which is the first whole song I'm trying to learn. Just for the record I followed a lesson online as a basis then looked at the tab. However I transcribed the tab into notation so I can play with it in front of me. Learning to read music is definitely something I want to do.

Anyways for the first time I was really hitting some of the chorus bassline and the bass just felt "good" in my hands for the first time I can remember.

Not even close to perfect but I'm getting there and noticing. I'm sure I'm boring all you guys that have been playing for years. LOL It just felt good and I'd love to hear any stories of a moment like that for you early on.

And finally...Yes, I know. There will be many more of these type moments to follow but you should always remember one for your firsts, right???? :-)

Good going on the transcription. I always struggle with sight reading, but it's a very worthwhile pursuit.

I know what you mean. Occasionally, i find myself playing, and it actually sounds like somebody else playing! I've almost learned "is this love" by Bob Marley.
