Am i considered a Trader?

Sign in to disble this ad
I started out playing guitar about 3 years ago, a year in and i was still terrible, then i pick up bass, and learn it fairly quickly. 2 years later i have a lot of other bands coming up to me, liking my bass style, and that they wish their bassist would do the same thing, and then our guitarist leaves the band, i jam on guitar with him, while he's playing drums and he asks me to play guitar in his new band that he is forming, and i accept... does that make me a trader, or anything like that, cuz i still play bass for the band that i am originally apart of, but its like i really enjoy playing guitar, i have all the respect in the world for bass players, but i'm also a decent guitar player.... just trying to make sure i'm not the only bassist that has ever done this.

didn't really trade, i'm still playing both instruments, in the other band, we already have an idea for a bassists that is just as good as i am, but he has different style about it, thats more pink floyd ish, and he knows way more about music theory then i do, but with me and our old guitarist both on guitar, we will be able to harmonize, and i can still do the wierd gutiar stuff only on guitar rather then on bass, i'll never give up playing bass.... never!

just play whatever you want, the drummer of slipknot plays lead guitar for his other band and hes not a trader. it just makes you a more well-rounded musician if anything

Who is it you think you are traitor-ing from? I dont think you need to worry. Music is music. Enjoy! I was in a group for a long time, then left out of state for school and when I came home for the summer we booked some shows. Thing was, that they had found a new bassist, really cool guy too, and so I played rhythm guitar for those shows, while he played all the lines I wrote. I had a blast playing guitar for those shows. play what you want to play with whom you want to play. Nobody's offended except maybe your bass.LOL

lol, thats what i thought, i just wanted to make sure i wasn't betraying some unwritten law lol, my bass still gets plenty of work lol, especially my rig, i think i may let the new bassist for the other band use it if we ever have any gigs, but i'll still use it for my current original band sourblood,... new band will be a treat!(unmistakeable truth)

All different flavours of good.

I've been playing bass for 4 years but once a month I sub on the drumset in our praise and worship team at church. That's because once a month our drummer is playing rhythm electric guitar. Our saxophonist can also play guitar and bass. We also have another young guy who plays quite proficiently on both electric guitar and drums.

You can always take something from one instrument and bring it to the other thereby injecting a little more of your own unique approach to the instrument and personality into your playing.

I also like to noodle around on the guitar and play keyboards in my home studio. I don't think I'm a traitor but I do think that if I concentrated on one more than the others I actually might get good on that instrument instead of spreading my limited practice time too thin. There is the potential of being a jack of all trades and master of none like myself.

Enjoy playing the instrument of your choosing. Nobody says you can't play guitar or bass or both. You're not a "trader"[sic]. Can only help in making you a well-rounded musician. Go ahead and play in both bands.

I just hope that you didn't spend so much time playing an instrument during school, you failed to study your spelling.

yeah the more instruments you play the more potential musical experiences you'll have, it can't be bad and even if you were a trader, who cares, dont' worry about what others would say
