Another slap bass book thread :(

Sign in to disble this ad
So here's my situation; For my birthday I got $50 to sheetmusicplus.com. I know what TB users have suggested the best books for learning slap bass are "Slap It!" and "Slap Bass Bible," but unfortunately the only one that's obtainable is "Slap It!" So I was wondering what other books you, the users, would suggest. I can read sheet music, so that's not so much of an issue for me. The only stipulation is that it can be found on sheetmusicplus.com Thanks folks!

It's not a book but a DVD

Alexis Slarevski's SLAP BASS PROGRAM

It's a fantastic DVD. Only downside is that it was filmed just before Victor Wooten and Double Thumping really hit the scene - but there ARE some interesting advanced techniques on there....It's $39.95 though.

Ed Friedland's Slap Bass DVD is also there. personally I've not seen it so I can't comment. Perhaps someone else can let you know what it's like (though Ed's stuff ranges from the pretty goood to the excellent).

Thanks!

Thanks for your input, it looks amazing! I actually had watched a clip from his DVD a few months ago and didn't know it. I was blown away by his mad bass skill, and his awesome threads too I'll be making the purchase as soon as my laptop gets back to me!

Thanks again! Totally appreciate it!

The Tony Oppenheim book? From like 1983? Really? that's it, no one's improved on the concept since then? I'm kinda surprised...

Thumbs up

I like all the publications previously mentioned, however I recently bought another publication that I like very much, Ultimate Slap Bass by Stuart Clayton. He really breaks down the Mark King technique. Available from BassBooks.com. Comes with 2 CDs. Pricey, but worth it.

+1 on Stuart's ULTIMATE SLAP BASS

It's very comprehensive. What I particularly like about it is as you go through each section he gives you a suggested list of songs that are at the level of the corresponding chapter. So you can go away and transcribe them and actually see how the techniques have been implemented in a real world environment by the original bassist.

Definitely worth checking out. (And it's probably pricey because it's a UK publication and it has to be shipped, and probably have import duty on it and so on. It's reasonably priced in the UK).
